Tasting notes by Julien Frumholtz, oenologist:
A chestnut colour with golden-brown highlights,
the nose of this Cognac is marked by a pleasant, lingering menthol note.
This is followed by notes of vanilla and cloves, to finish on candied notes of quince and prunes, with a hint of wood.
After a little agitation, the initial menthol note, characteristic of the 1989 vintage, gives way to delicate floral fragrances, characteristic of the limestone soils of its origins, before returning to notes of prunes, as candied as you like.
The softness and harmony on the palate contrast with the power of the nose.
The palate juggles notes of liquorice, spices and candied fruit, finishing on a lingering note of rancio, testimony to the time that has passed since its birth.
This Cognac is undoubtedly a pure and marvellous expression of what the Cognac region has to offer, with its powerful nose and delicate palate.
This Cognac is entirely made from the 1989 harvest, has been kept in sealed and controlled casks, only opened in August 2019 for bottling, after 30 years.
This Cognac is made of grapes from Grande Champagne.
